WEBSITE AND BLOG MENUS – TOP OF PAGE
Hmm…
What to watch?
Here I sit for hours and hours.
A mindless blob of humanity with remote in hand aimlessly switching from channel to channel.
Surely there must be something on that has some value to it?
This is the fourth time I’ve checked the Menu.
It’s been a whole minute since I checked last and the urge to look again overpowers me.
I have to see if by some small chance there is a programming change to one of the stations.
Still nothing has changed.
I am stuck in a mindless stopper now.
Trolling hundreds of channels over and over and over.
All I want is to find just one show that would hold my attention.
A program that will stimulate my senses for the allotted time period.
Including commercials of course.
And what are the choices that I am offered?
To watch reruns of comedy shows that are outdated and that I have seen too many times already.
To watch the same tree house being built for the fifteenth time.
To watch the same three movies that seem to move from channel to channel, playing over and over again.
To listen to Newscasters repeating the same story over and over and over.
Again and again and again all day long.
To learn how to cook every conceivable type of food dish you could imagine.
And never have the time to cook any of them!
DIY projects to fix or build everything in the world.
As soon as you can tear yourself away from the boob-tube long enough to do them.
Tours of every City in every Country.
Reviews of every eatery in every city in the entire world.
And of course Sports and Sports and Sports and more Sports channels.
Did I mention there are Sports channels.
Of course we must not forget the channels in other Languages and…
The nature channels.
The children’s channels.
The animal channels.
The religion channels.
The self help channels.
Music channels.
Movie channels.
Medical channels.
Channels that cover every subject you can imagine and still…
“There is nothing on TV to watch!”
Apparently after watching TV for the past 68 years I have gotten a little burnt out over the whole affair.
It’s time now for a change.
It’s time I did something about this.
So I did!
I turned the TV off.
Just like that.
I pushed a button and the TV went off.
How amazing.
Now what do I do with myself?
How will I ever survive without the almighty, ever knowing TV to tell me what I should do.
NO!
What I must do and how I must do it.
What I must say and not say.
What words I can use.
What words I cannot use.
The “—” words?
What to do and What not to do.Who I can look at.
Who I can’t look at.
When I can look at them.
When I can’t look at them.
Who I must not offend by looking at.
Or not looking at.
Or saying…or thinking…or, or, or, or, or, or, or.
After a few minutes my head clears and my blurry vision is restored.
I now find myself looking at a piece of paper with the words ‘To Do List’ written on it.
There’s also a pen.
I forgot they still made those things.
I now find myself writing things down.
I was writing a list of things that I had to do.
Can you imagine that?
A list of things to do.
And the list is hand written with a pen by me.
‘Look everyone…I know how to write.’
It didn’t take too long to come up with a good starting list.
So it’s off to do my ‘To Do list’.
I’m amazed at all the things that I can achieve during the time I’ve wasted watching TV.
A half hour sitcom.
An hour infomercial.
A two hour movie.
What can I do?
I mowed, edged, weed whacked and blew down my yard.
I straightened up and cleaned my 2 car garage.
I reorganized my outside shed.
My wife made me some lunch.
I checked both our cars levels and tire pressures.
Organized the cabinet for the car care items.
That’s what can be done!
Not only did I finish my list of things to do…
I ate lunch.
I got to spend time outdoors.
And most importantly I was able to spend time with my wife.
Also…
I made a list of things to do for myself the next time I turn that
TV OFF
and get back to living life again.
So what’s the point of this Post?
Hopefully to remind you that life is passing you by at a furious speed.
Yet we all still watch TV for hours and hours at a time.
So much time wasted.
So little of it left.
Some TV is definitely okay.
We all know that our time could be better spent than watching TV as much as we do.
One day you will realize this as I did.
Hopefully it won’t take you 68 years.
Do not let this happen to you or your family.
TURN OFF THE TV EVERY NOW AND THEN
PLEASE
